MEDVED ENDURANCE PROJECT
A new training program that's all about testing your limits by Mort Nace
I'm really excited to announce a program I have been building for months, a program that combines my loves for offroad running, camaraderie and testing ones limits. The Medved Endurance Project is an opportunity to bring both veteran endurance fanatics together with runners looking to take on new challenges. The Project is an opportunity to share race experiences, favorite gear, training suggestions and simply getting inspired to getting out of your comfort zone. And the $45 program fee is a steal for what you get in return.
Patagonia, Vasque and Darn Tough Socks have partnered with us to provide some awesome gifts, I hope you will consider joining us for the big fun. (Registration will be available by March 1, limitedto the first 30 registrants)
A quick synopsis of what I'm up to, there is a lot to say but here's a short capsule of the details:
Thursday, April 1: Meet at Medved Running and Walking Outfitters at 6 PM for a forum with a team of trail ambassadors I've assembled. Meet Ian Golden, RD of the Virgil Crest Ultras, an offroad event in the Ithaca area with something for everyone between the 50 and 100 mile solo race, as well as the 100 mile relay for teams with 5-20 runners. If you haven't run in the Ithaca area you're missing out on the some of the sweetest, gnarliest trails in New York State. Meet area offroad all stars JohnProhira, Ken Schaible, Teresa Sukiennicki, Joy Valvano and Mary White as they share their experiences and answer your questions about taking on new challenges.
Saturday, July 17: Meet one of the strongest ladies in the sport of ultrarunning, Krissy Moehl. Join Krissy (pictured right)and many of us at 6:30 AM in Bushnell's Basin for a run with the Oven Door Runners, before Krissy heads to Medved and shares a video presentation of her experiences at 12 PM, with Q & A to follow. Medved Endurance Project participants get included to an "invite only" gathering with Krissy the night before!
A Medved coupon to use on the gear you'll need to get out there!
and more to come as I finalize the rest of the details...
Thanks for reading, lots more to come. Keep an eye out for future announcements as plans come together.
Brooks Glycerin 8
It's in the DNA by Dan Medved
The latest edition of the Glycerin introduces "DNA", which is the latest technology innovation from Brooks. This patent pending cushioning system is comprised of polymer chains which automatically and physically adapt to the force placed on the foot. Due to this ability to change based upon need, DNA will in essence give you a customized ride throughout the course of your run.
When I first tried on the new Glycerin, I was immediately impressed with the "plushness" of the ride. This is a much more cushioned shoe than its predecessors; many of which I felt were a little too thin, especially under the fore foot. When you put on the new Glycerin however, it does give you the feel that an upper end cushioned shoe is suppose to provide.
The fit of the shoe is also "right on". The arch hit me in the right place and the new Glycerin definitely give me the out of the box comfort and "wow" feeling that you look for in a new pair of running shoes.
Being that this shoe was just released, I have not put many miles on the shoe yet. I have enjoyed my first couple of runs with the new Glycerin and I am looking forward to seeing how the cushioning holds up over my long runs and after I put some miles on them.
If you are someone who likes a plush, cushioned ride, I would definitely recommend trying on the new Glycerin next time you are ready for a new pair. The men's color is depicted above on the left, with the ladies' model next to it on the right side of the photo.
